What is Nemesis eH20

Nemesis eH2O is an anti-viral disinfectant that kills 99.9999% of harmful bacteria. Its strong enough to effectively fight off viruses, moulds and fungi with fogging or spraying but gentle enough to be used as an antiseptic on human skin and scalp.

Nemesis is made up of simple ingredients including water, chloride salt and Hypochlorous Acid (HOCI). What is Hypochlorous Acid? Nemesis eH2O is stabilised Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl); a pH neutral solution which inactivates viruses, bacteria, endospores and fungi. It is safe for human tissues, is environmentally benign and requires no toxic waste disposal or hazardous material management.

Hypochlorous acid is one of the most effective known biocides. This weak acid is the same chemical produced by the human immune system, by the white blood cells to kill invasive organisms and fight infection and is a natural part of our internal defence system.

Hypochlorous acid destroys biofilm and therefore quickly kills pathogens that might be protected by the biofilm.

HOCl works to fight infection, control responses to injury, and enhance healing; it is part of the healthy response to injury and recovery. HOCl does not irritate or aggravate human tissue, including wound sites. It does not sting as it is pH neutral and does not dry the skin. Nemesis eH2O eliminates microbes on contact, rapid and effective use on all mammals.

Hypochlorous acid is not an oxidant. It has oxidant properties, but those are matched by its equal reduction qualities. When a molecule has both of these qualities, it is called an oxidation/reduction molecule (or redox molecule).

What is a redox reaction? ​

A redox (or oxidation-reduction) reaction is a type of chemical reaction that involves a transfer of electrons between two species.

A key property making hypochlorous acid so rapidly lethal to microbes is the molecule’s neutral electrical charge. The cell walls around bacteria have a net negative charge, thus repelling other negatively charged particles such as the OCl- ion in bleach. Hypochlorous acid, however, being neither positively nor negatively charged, can make contact with and invade bacterial cells.

Once inside the bacterium, the hypochlorous acid wreaks havoc by chemically interacting with proteins, causing them to lose their complex, origami-like structures. Once you destroy the proteins, the bacteria cannot survive.

They have different chemical formulas; the formula for sodium hypochlorite is NaOCl and the formula for hypochlorous acid is HOCl.

Depending on the pH of the bleach solution, some of the Sodium Hypochlorite may be converted to Hypochlorous acid, but at higher pH the sodium hypochlorite has to dissociate to the OCl- ion and kills by oxidation. Above pH 9 bleach contains no hypochlorous acid and at pH 7.5 it contains approximately 50% hypochlorous acid.

At the same concentration, a much larger volume of bleach is needed to achieve the same anti-microbial power as pure hypochlorous acid, which depending on the environmental circumstances, can be up to 300 times more effective than bleach at killing bacteria.
